As the City’s operational needs evolve and grow, technology plays an ever important component to that growth. The mechanism the City has adopted to prioritize technology needs is called the Technology Governance process. ANY project that may affect or requires the implantation of technology is required to go through this procedure.
A large portion of the Information Technology (IT) budgeting process is establishing which projects will be worked on during the new fiscal year. Technology Governance provides the mechanism by which a project’s viability can be qualified. Each proposal is objectively evaluated against certain criteria.
The process helps to ensure that the City makes informed choices when we invest in a given technology. It is important to confirm that the project needs are in alignment with our City’s broader strategic goals. The process also ensures that the necessary resources are available to complete these business technology projects, which is key when preparing for the next FY budget.
As part of IT’s commitment to a timely, transparent budget process we have set a few key dates below for FY2019/20 projects. This is intended to help us provide pertinent information to our customers earlier in their budget process. While some of these deadlines have already passed, we highly encourage you to submit a concept paper for any incoming technology-related projects.

Technology Governance webpage under the Information Technology Department page.
