City communicators from multiple departments won nine EPIC Awards for Excellence in Public Information and Communications - including Best in Show - at the annual California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) conference April 10.
CAPIO is the leading state-level organization for public sector communications professionals in the nation, with a membership of more than 600.
Roseville alone took first prize in one-third of the conference categories.

Most Innovative – EngageRoseville (Public Affairs and Communications)
Communication Plans – “Life is Electric” Renters Campaign (Roseville Electric). The campaign focused on targeting a segment of Roseville’s population that is normally missed in our traditional marketing and set out to connect the idea that electricity powers your everyday life.
Community Event, Recurring – Home for the Holidays (Roseville Utility Exploration Center). The Home for the Holidays temporary exhibit offers helpful hints on what residents can do at home to save water and energy, reduce waste, and live sewer smart during the holiday season.
Community Relations/Participation – Dry Creek Greenway West Planning and Feasibility Study (Public Works). The Dry Creek Greenway West is another link in the area’s multi-use trail network. This outreach project was recognized for its comprehensive approach to public participation, which used digital tools like a virtual trail walk to gather input.

Our EngageRoseville communication effort was led by the Public Affairs and Communications Department but also included essential input from Finance, Police, Fire, Parks, Recreation & Libraries, Public Works, Development Services and the City Manager's Office.
Communicators working on EngageRoseville included Megan MacPherson, Brian Jacobson, Ken Bodine, Elyjah Wilbur and Lindsay Duck (Public Affairs and Communications); Pam Allen, Jenny Taylor and Phil Macalma (Parks, Recreation & Libraries); Helen Dyda (Public Works); Rob Baquera (Police); and Jaime Garrett (Fire).

The City also won third place in a national competition comparing intranets. These closed-communications networks are available only to the employees of a given company.
Our intranet is "The HUB." The category in which we won an award is "User Experience and Content Management." The competition was conducted by the international agency intra.net.
