In July 1969, the world watched in awe as Apollo 11 Astronauts climbed down the ladder of the lunar lander onto the Moon's surface. We asked our staff to relate their experiences of watching that event:
- Ken Bodine (Public Affairs and Communications) “In 1969, I was four years old. Our family was living in Chicago. I remember my parents calling all the kids into the living room to “watch something amazing.” We huddled around our old Magnavox console TV. This was a big TV that was set in a wooden console. It was a piece of furniture of its own. The screen wasn’t a true black-and-white TV, but closer to green-and-white. There, I watched the moon landing with my family. That is my first memory of watching TV – seeing Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walking on the face of the Moon. I’ll never forget that moment.”
