Celebrating the legacy, life, and values of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., members of the Roseville Inclusion Committee attended the 21st annual MLK celebration at Sacramento State University of California the evening of January 25, 2020.
The evening was filled with an impassioned message of unity and call for community service. Bringing together multiple agencies from across the state; law enforcement, elected officials, judges, teachers, administrators, religious clergy, and others.
Among the attending in the room, was City of Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, former Roseville Chief of Police and current Sacramento Chief of Police Daniel Hahn, and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California McGregor W. Scott.
Awards were presented, and recognition for a number of community leaders was on display, although nothing illuminated brighter than the message of unity.
Understanding that the most comprehensive and inclusive way to build bridges toward the future is with everyone making contributions. No individual is greater than the sum, and every voice has a valued opinion on a conversation that is both sincere and transparent.
The night concluded with a keynote speaker (Ruby Bridges.) adding to the narrative of unity and community. Contributing a unique perspective of American history, through eyes that only she could.
The Inclusion Committee members could not have been more honored to have been in attendance, lending a presence to such a powerful and enduring message.
